I have been a fan of musicals since I was a little girl, I knew all the songs of Grease by the time I was about 5 or 6 I think. My love for them grew even further when I saw my first live musical in London. Every time I visit London a musical is mandatory now.

I had a dream that one day the kind of musicals that you see in the West End would be produced here too and this Saturday I managed to get tickets for the matinee show to go watch Mamma Mia at the MCC. The theatre was full and everyone was eager for it to start. Honey if you didn’t go to see this show, you missed one hell of a good time.

ABBA say the winner takes it all. These people brought it, took it and slayed it 😊

The set is the first thing that caught my eye and the way it was built to accommodate all the settings throughout the show was a brilliant idea. Next was the opening, WOW Maxine Aquilina who played the role of Sophie is the definition of a triple threat. Maxine has such a great voice and I cannot praise her enough for her timing, acting and dancing. She is a star.

The musical also featured West End leading lady Charlotte Gorton, as well as an all-star local cast including Izzy Warrington, Pia Zammit, Antony Edridge, Ray Calleja, Edward Mercieca, Thomas Camilleri, Francesco Nicodeme, Jeremy Grech, Nicole Cassar and Tezara Eve Camilleri. No one could fault any of these artists. They all gave stellar performances from A-Z.

Praise also has to be rightfully given to the Director Chris Gatt , Musical Director Kris Spiteri and to the Choreographer as they along with the performers gave this show the magic it required.

So to all those involved both on stage, stage crew, musicians and FM Theatre Productions I , along with all the people attending the 5 shows thank you for the music and for the brilliant show you have given us. May we have more and more of these productions.

  1. I first saw musicals live in elementary school and then saw my first show in NYC at age 12. Saw mostly touring productions growing up. From the United States and have to rely on touring production due to not having very easy access to NYC. Charlotte not only has shows tour there year after year, but is also home to Central Piedmont Community College.

Some shows I saw- touring, Broadway, West End, and school: Godspell, Music Man, Sound of Music, Les Mis (3x at community college, 1x in the West End and 1x on tour), Phantom of the Opera, Annie, Pippin, Wicked (Broadway and 3x on tour), Newsies, Grease, Oklahoma, Mamma Mia, Rent.
